Our mission
Resistance through legal support for our community. If police come knocking on your door, we are the first number you call.
Who are we?
Resist-Aid is a support network for those facing repression in the Czech Republic for their pro-Palestinian activism. We were founded as a coalition of individual activists unified by solidarity with the people of Palestine, with the goal of providing peer-to-peer, legal and financial aid to those facing charges, investigation, or surveillance for their commitment to the cause.
Resist-Aid is wholly run by volunteers – we do this because we are also part of the struggle, not because it is our job.
What is our philosophy?
As activists and supporters of anti-colonial struggles, we understand that the legal framework of any state upholds the power structures of the state itself and is often used to repress dissent rather than protect the people. Our support network is available to anyone targeted for their pro-Palestinian activism. We recognize that the choice to repress belongs to the state and doesn't have much to do with morality or the specific actions being criminalized.
For these reasons:
- We are charge-agnostic. We offer support regardless of the alleged crime and whether we personally agree with the methods or actions of the individual.
- We promote activist-led defense. We encourage an approach where activists maintain their autonomy. The role of a lawyer is to guide them through the process and explain their rights and risks so the activist can make an informed choice regarding their defense or conduct.
- We defend the movement itself, not just individuals. Our goal is not merely to support individuals facing legal proceedings and protect their rights, but build a robust support network that will enable the movement to stay mobilized and organized in the face of increasing pressure from the side of the state.
What will we do?
- Raise funds to support individual activists facing state repression by covering or partially covering their legal fees and fines.
- Establish a network of lawyers friendly to the cause in order to make access to legal advice easier for members of our communities.
- Provide education to the network of lawyers by sharing case studies and best practices from allied collectives offering similar support abroad.
- Provide education for members of the movement on their rights.
- Offer peer-to-peer advice.
- Mobilise our communities for arrest support, if needed.
- Offer support as legal observers at protests and actions.
- Keep growing our capabilities and capacities to meet the needs of the movement.
